Give them the future they deserve

Global Education Academy provides tutoring to Year 3 students in literacy and numeracy.

What makes our program successful

  • The only research-based learning centre (Cognitive Load Theory)
  • Program developed by the founder – Dr Majeda Awawdeh (previously managed  ICAS exams at UNSW)
  • Fully qualified educators with many years’ experience
  • Specialised small groups

NAPLAN is not the only reason students should get tutoring in Year 3. Year 3 is the beginning of stage 2 where students need to be more independent and know how to make connections between concepts in mathematics and apply all the skills needed to master English. Our books are written based on Cognitive Load Theory. They are designed to minimise the cognitive load students experience when they learn new concepts, hence facilitate the learning process. Our qualified and experienced teachers show students how to establish and develop associations. In our small group setting, students learn how to academically interact with other students, discuss concepts and strategies so they develop analytical thinking skills and become confident learners.

Literacy

The English program includes four components:

Reading –  oral and silent reading strategies, reading fluency.

Reading Comprehension – Comprehension is a process of constructing meaning from clues in the text, as well as considering information in the student’s prior knowledge and experience including their language acquisition. This process of building meaning involves interaction between students and the text.

Writing – Developing understandings of writing constructs, text types and their purposes

Language Conventions – Instruction in a range of spelling strategies, syntax and grammatical constructs to give students a solid foundation on which to build their skills

Course Structure

The course is structured for 4 terms of 10 weeks each. Students attend a 2-hour class once a week.

Each term students receive a GEA book that is mapped to the syllabus and written based on Cognitive Load Theory.

In week 9 of each term students are assessed to measure their progress. Full feedback is given to students. Parents receive a comprehensive report for their child’s progress. Week 10 is the consolidation week.

The year 3 program is an excellent program for NAPLAN. NAPLAN assesses the three main literacy areas Reading Comprehension, Language Conventions and Writing. All these subjects are covered in the English course. NAPLAN also assesses Numeracy (Concepts, strategies and Problem Solving) that are covered in our Maths course.

Numeracy

All maths programs at GEA include three main components:

  • Concepts
  • Strategies
  • Problem Solving

The focus in this level is on conceptual understanding of place value, whole numbers, operations, fractions, measurement, space, chance and data. Students learn using our carefully-written books that introduce the concepts in a way that enables schemas acquisition. The program builds on previous knowledge and connects maths to everyday life.

The program focuses on building sound operations relationship. Students are empowered by various mathematical strategies.

Students learn the UPSL TM (Understand, Plan, Solve and Learn) strategy for problem solving. They start analyse, plan and solve word problems.

The course is based on a Learning Continuum k-6. The programs for Year 3 is structured for 4 terms of 10 weeks each. Students attend a 2-hour class once a week.
