Give them the future they deserve

Global Education Academy provides tutoring to Year 2 students in literacy and numeracy.

What makes our program successful

  • The only research-based learning centre (Cognitive Load Theory)
  • Program developed by the founder – Dr Majeda Awawdeh (previously managed  ICAS exams at UNSW)
  • Fully qualified educators with many years’ experience
  • Specialised small groups

Providing young students with a strong foundation in the two core subjects is the best way to raise high achievers and academically successful individuals. Our books are written by our specialists based on Cognitive Load Theory and mapped to the Australian curriculum. They are designed to minimise the cognitive load students experience when they learn new concepts, hence facilitate the learning process and make it more enjoyable. Our qualified and experienced educators not only teach students the “how” but also the “why”.

Literacy

The English program includes four components:

Reading –  Oral and silent reading strategies, reading fluency

Reading Comprehension – Focused reading comprehension strategies including multiple choice questions and open answer questions

Writing – Developing understandings of writing constructs, text types and their purposes

Language Conventions – Instruction in a range of spelling strategies, syntax and grammatical constructs to give students a solid foundation on which to build their skills

Course Structure

The course is structured for 4 terms of 10 weeks each. Students attend a 2-hour class once a week.

Each term students receive a GEA book that is mapped to the syllabus and based on Cognitive Load Theory.

In week 9 of each term students are assessed to measure their progress. Full feedback is given to students. Parents receive a comprehensive report of their child’s progress. Week 10 is the consolidation week.

The Year 2 Course is an excellent start to prepare your child for NAPLAN in Year 3. NAPLAN assesses the three main literacy areas Reading Comprehension, Language Conventions and Writing. All these subjects are covered in the English course. NAPLAN also assesses Numeracy (Concepts, strategies and Problem Solving) that are covered in our Maths course.

Numeracy

All GEA maths programs include three main components:

  • Concepts
  • Strategies
  • Problem Solving

In this level students are introduced to new concepts. The program focuses on building sound number relationship, understanding numbers magnitudes and quantities. Fractions and place value are also at the core of the program. Students are empowered by various strategies.

Students learn the UPSL TM (Understand, Plan, Solve and Learn) strategy for problem solving. They start to analyse, plan and solve word problems.
